Boating Community Welcomed to PITT OHIO Lighted Boat Parade

Pittsburgh Icons Illuminate the PITT OHIO Lighted Boat Parade

From Andy Warhol to Mr. Rogers, Heinz Ketchup to Primanti Bros.’ sandwiches, Pittsburgh has its share of unique icons. And, we’re excited to showcase those famous figures by lighting up the three rivers during the PITT OHIO Lighted Boat Parade on Saturday, August 5th. Boat owners are invited to deck out their boats in honor of their favorite Pittsburgh celebrity or symbol and join the parade, which sets sail at 9:30 p.m. Participation is open to ALL!

“Pittsburgh is a special city. It’s defined by the people, places and brands that make it unique and have helped put this city on the map,” said Chuck Hammel, President of PITT OHIO. “We felt it was the perfect theme for this year’s boat parade. Not only does it help honor the Regatta’s 40th anniversary, but it also gives participants endless possibilities for decorations. It’s going to be quite a sight.”

Participants are encouraged to use as many lights and decorations as possible to ensure their boats sparkle and shine for all to see. A panel of judges will be positioned on the Pier on the North Shore to help select the best boat in three categories: best decorations, most lights and crowd favorite. The winner of the best decorated boat will receive $1,000 for a charity of his or her choice. The winners for most lights and crowd favorite will receive $500 for a charity of their choice.
